The Lamb Cup knockout skittles competition has just celebrated 60 years at the Pilton Working Mens Club. The competition takes its name from the old Lamb Brewery in Frome, which donated the cup in 1949 and were at that time the clubs suppliers.

In the early years of the competition it was held in an old timber building which had previously been used as a local Girl Guides HQ. This building was used as the skittle alley until it was replaced in the early 70's by a stone building on the same site, including a function room.

17 teams entered this years competition and the finalists for Fridays big night were MENDIP FARMERS and VALLEY 8. Winners by 386 to 312 were VALLEY 8 captained by Pete Carey who was presented with a cash prize of £100 and a trophy by Martin Love sales director of Butcombe brewery which supplies the club today.

To mark the 60 years, the finalists each received a special medal, which were sponsored by Butcombe Brewery.

Mendip Farmers captain Derek Drew received a cash prize of £50 along with a special medal for each player. Other special awards included The Jon Drew Memorial Cup for the highest spare throughout the competition; this year won by Mervyn Vaughan who played for Malakas. Mervyn donated his prize money to the William Budd Ward at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

The Dennett Cup for the highest individual score was won by Taff Dennis of Valley 8. In 2002 it was decided that we purchased trophies for the highest individual score and spare for ladies as we had several ladies teams entering the competition, these two trophies for 2009 were won by Mandy Carey captain of STRIKERS.

President Jim Govier and Secretary Eileen Govier would like to thank all teams for entering the competition, the lads for sticking up and Butcombe Brewery for sponsoring the event.
