You may have followed a little white van driving slowly through Pilton with ‘Zannetec Motorsports’ displayed on the rear. Well, its driving slowly because for one, the driver lives in Pilton and secondly the driver (either of us) doesn’t really feel the need to drive fast on the street. We are Zane and Anne Llewellyn and we are Drag racers and festival fanatics. What’s a Drag Racing business doing based in Pilton? Well, it’s a long story….. I had a really good job at Rolls Royce in Filton. I used to repair and maintain laser cutting machines and was pretty good at it too! But in my spare time I used to build drag racing cars for myself and friends, and that was what I really loved to do. So after a really serious crash in one of my racing cars, that made me realise my mortality, it was time to leave the daily grind, and start to live a life that was more than just wages and security. At the same time, through no coincidence at all, I met Anne, a drag racer that was feeling the same as me – time for change. So I left my job, Anne moved from London to a new job in the South West and we started looking for somewhere to live, and at the same time we started doing festivals.. Originally we were looking to live in the Cotswolds, but it didn’t feel right. It was also quickly apparent that we wouldn’t be able to afford a house there. So we started looking south of Bristol, never in a million years did I think we would find somewhere affordable in Pilton, it was just one of those dreams that you think would never happen. But as we searched, the prices started to drop, and eventually we decided to look at the peculiar place that we had previously dismissed as too expensive and too ugly - Woodbourne Cottage. We viewed the cottage on our way to Beautiful Days and fell in love with it. We negotiated the price to the sound of the Levellers playing in the background. So we can honestly say that we bought our house at a music festival! Next priority was to move Zannetec closer to Pilton, as commuting to Bristol every day was proving a little expensive! I eventually found a place next to the Royal Bath and West Showground. So now, after six years chasing the dream, we are living in a perfect home in a lovely village, and have a successful business in the motorsport and classic car market. I am really busy at all times, but am also willing to help out if anyone needs any specialist welding or fabrication doing. I have a website that I update with reasonable regularity – http://www.zannetec.com Since moving the workshop to Evercreech, the business has really taken off, with my core of customers from Bristol staying faithful and a lot of new business coming from Somerset as the Hot Rod and American car community realised that I was on their doorstep. After a life in the suburbs of Bristol and London we feel we have found our true home in the best village in Somerset, no, the best village in the world! All the best... Zane & Anne
