Ok, not strictly speaking in Pilton, but certainly of interest to Pilton is the fact that only a mile up the road the Balloon Network regularly launch balloon flights from a field just inside North Wootton.

If you've ever wondered what it must be like to drift slowly across the open landscape taking in the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside in a hot air balloon, you need look no further than our own 'back yard' to find out. Throughout the year the Ballooning Network regularly launch from NW and invite you to fulfil what for many is the ambition of a lifetime by taking a flight with them. Age is not a barrier to enjoying this spectacular sport, so whether you're nine or ninety you can enjoy the experience, magic and exhilaration that hot air ballooning brings.

Flights take place in the late afternoon or early evening in order to take advantage of the stable air conditions that are found at that time of day. Flights last for about an hour during which time you will travel an average distance of ten miles. The wind dictates the direction in which you travel ensuring that the only thing to make your flight similar to any other are the breath taking views of the surrounding scenery.

The retrieval team remain in radio contact with the balloon throughout the flight and meet you upon landing in order to transport you back to the launch site.  After the flight, each passenger receives a commemorative certificate signed by the pilot to keep as a lasting memory of a day you will never forget, the day you flew in a hot air balloon and looked down, not up!
