The Dave Mason Memorial Game

(Click photo to enlarge)

Dave Mason lived in Vine cottage, Bread Street with his wife Joyce. Unfortunately Dave died earlier this year from prostate cancer but shortly after his memorial service John Rossiter came up with the idea of holding a  golf tournament in his memory as Dave was a keen golfer. John organised a match at Dave’s Club Wheathill and provided a wooden bowl trophy for the winner.

Seventeen golfers from in and around Pilton set aside an afternoon and enjoyed a competitive game that was played in good spirit.  As Dave was a left handed player everyone had to play the 18th hole with a left handed Iron off the tee and putt with a left handed putter. It was only a par three but there were not many birdies on that hole!!  Joyce and her family watched the closing stages of the game which was finished off with a warm meal in the clubhouse.

The eventual first winner of the Dave Mason Memorial bowl was John Pratt  from Lorien, Top Street.  Dave’s wife Joyce presented the Bowl and said that she was pleased to see such support and hoped that it would be an annual event.  She thanked everyone for their time and efforts especially John Rossiter.

A collection for the charity British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association raised just over £100.

The Photograph shows Joyce Mason presenting the Bowl to John.
