The land for the Playing Field was transferred from Somerset County Council to Pilton Parish Council in 1966. To be used for recreational purposes, it was purchased with a loan (again from Somerset County Council) which the Parish Council repaid over some years from the rates. The field is now managed on behalf of the village by the Pilton Playing Field Committee who have full responsibility it. Plans for the replacement of the Pilton Pavilion are now well under way. It took rather longer than the Playing Field Committee would have wished for the insurance company to send a cheque in settlement but that has now been done and the money is now safely banked. Plans for the new pavilion are now to be drawn up and submitted to Mendip District Council and it is obviously hoped that the application will be successful. Whenever possible we will keep you updated with the progress. Although the rates for hiring the Playing Field are under currently review the field is available for hire and has been used for several private parties this year. The Committee were also very pleased that the Pilton Show was again able to use the Playing Field in September despite there being no Pavilion.
The Committee also received an excellent ROSPA report on the Children’s Play Area in July 2006 and are very satisfied with the appearance of the Field despite the dry summer.
