Sponsored Walk For

Sunday 10th May 2009 saw the very first 'Walk for WaterAid'. Following part of the original Monarch's Way walk two hundred and fifty volunteers walked the legendary route from Priddy to Worthy Farm to raise money for WaterAid. The route was originally taken by Charles II after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. For six weeks he fled, hotly pursued by the Parliamentary forces under Oliver Cromwell, and travelled first north, then south through the Cotswolds and the Mendips to the South Coast.  Finally he went along the South Downs to Shoreham where he made his escape to France.

The event was organised by Mini Kingman from the high street retailer 'Millets' and was four months in planning for this most favoured festival beneficiary. Both Michael Eavis and 'The Travelling Band' were there to greet everyone when the eventually arrived after the long hard walk. In the end over £8,000 was raised.
